Works by Hugo Pratt and many more at Sotheby’s Bande Dessinée auction in Paris

Un disegno di Hugo Pratt (1927-1995), che raffigura il suo personaggio simbolo, Corto Maltese, sarà la star dell’asta sul fumetto organizzata da Sotheby’s “Bande Dessinée”Parigi sabato 7 marzo. Si tratta di un lavoro a china e colori su carta, la stima è 220-240.000 euro, in evidenza sulla copertina del catalogo dell’asta.

Sono oltre 300 i lotti che rappresentano una sorta di panoramica internazionale di quest’arte grafica. Le opere sono state selezionate da due autorità in materia, Bernard Mahé ed Eric Verhoest.

Tra i disegni proposti figurano opere di Milo Manara, Enki Bilal, Milton Caniff, Yves Chaland, Robert Crumb, Philippe Druillet, Will Eisner, André Franquin, Gir-Moebius, Hergé, Victor Hubinon, Edgar P.Jacobs, André Juillard, Jacques Martin, Winsor McCay, Frank Miller, Peyo, François Schuiten, Albert Uderzo (Asterix) e Chris Ware.

Sotheby’s is delighted to announce our next Bande Dessinée auction in Paris on 7 March 2015, featuring selected works by leading comic strip artists from around the world. The sale, comprising 300 illustrations, paintings and original plates, blends historical and contemporary European and American authors, and is sure to appeal to international connoisseurs and collectors.

Artists represented include established names such as Hergé, Hugo Pratt, Peyo, Gir-Moebius, Enki Bilal and François Schuiten alongside American artists like Winsor McCay – one of the founders of transatlantic comic strips – and Milton Caniff, with the first two Sunday Pages of Steve Canyon. Highlights will be on view at Sotheby’s New York during the Comic Con fair this October.

Sotheby’s is teaming up with experts Bernard Mahé of Galerie 9e Art in Paris and Eric Verhoest of Brussels’ Galerie Champaka to stage this exceptional auction devoted to comics from around the world. Mr Mahé, an international specialist in American comic strips, has played a pioneering role in promoting the art form while Mr Verhoest has overseen a series of exhibitions combining classic Belgian artists and contemporary authors.
